To Each His Own

I can't pinpoint the hour, day or month it began, but I can tell you this, it was some time in Hannah's second year of life and spanned till she was around the age of five.  What, you may ask?  Well, her love of eye glasses, of course, and I don't mean sunglasses.  I wear contacts, but my nightly ritual is to take them off and put my glasses on.  Therefore, my morning ritual consists of the exact opposite.  My dear sweet Hannah decided one day, in that second year of life, that she did NOT like my morning ritual.  She determined to make that known through tears (lots of them) and words of disagreement.  It got to the point that I would "secretly" perform this morning ritual.  But even that didn't stop the emotions that raged at the sight of my glassless face.  Yes, she even told me one day that she thought I looked better in my glasses and I should wear them all the time.  I thanked her for her honesty, but continued with my morning routine, MUCH to her dismay.  Over the past year, this obvious disgust with my choice of eye wear has decreased and she no longer cries about it, but she still prefers that I wear my glasses.  Now her interest in glasses has turned to herself.  A few months back, she decided she wanted to wear glasses, not just sunglasses, but the real deal.  I told her to be thankful that she didn't have to wear glasses (yet), but that didn't suffice.  She encouraged me to remove the lenses from a pair of reading glasses, back in December.

That satisfied her glasses craving for about a month and then it resurfaced and this time, with a passion.  A few weeks ago I found myself pricing glasses with non perscription lenses at the Wal-Mart eye clinic where I discovered I would be paying a minimum of $50.  Wow!  Since we were already "in deep" Matt and I decided it would be good if we could find a very inexpensive way to get her some glasses, even if it meant it being a Birthday present.  Well, Matt saved the day!  For some reason he suggested we look at Claire's Boutique.  And sure enough, we found them!  Alexa also chose a pair with slightly tinted lenses that have since then been removed by our dog. : (   Hannah, however, has worn her glasses almost daily for the past week and a half and is quite cute in them. : )   You can see for yourself.

Note #1:  The beads on Hannah's head, were strung by her and tied to a clip.  She also attached her glasses case to an ID necklace and she chose her own outfit.  My little 6 year old is starting to make her own fashion statement.  I love it!

Note #2:  I want to point out that this interest in glasses might in fact be hereditary.  Hannah's aunt (I won't mention names) had the same desire, but unfortunately that cost her parents a whole lot of money and a couple doctor visits.  Oops!  I am sure glad Claire's exists!
